Abstract:

Oil-water separators are required for removing the oil from oil-water mixtures such as factory waste water, ships bilge water, and ships ballast water, or can be used in an oil-spill clean-up system. The study evaluates the feasibility of using a refined vortex separator for various shipboard applications. The report contains three main sections a discussion of vortex separator test results including test results for a 6-in.-dia10-gpm separator and for a 9.5-in.-dia50-gpm separator a discussion of a scaling technique and an evaluation of the separator for shipboard applications.
