Problems peculiar to the operation of marine antennas, as well as the methods used in theoretical and experimental studies of antennas are systematically discussed. Much attention has been directed to theoretical investigations of the effect of metallic bodies on the characteristics of ship antennas. A basis is provided for the various electrical and operational requirements which ship antennas should meet. Consideration is given to practical approaches in the building of antenna systems, depending on anticipated operating conditions of the ship being designed and on conditions of communication. Examples of antenna design are given the results of theoretical and experimental studies of ship antennas are offered and methods used in engineering computations are proposed.
