The application of modeling techniques to Air Force civil engineering research is investigated. The use of models is discussed in general terms, and model theory and dimensional analysis are reviewed. Examples of the use of modeling are presented, along with an extensive reference list. Dynamic modeling is difficult because usually not all dynamic model laws can be simultaneously satisfied. Nevertheless, in many cases the application of distorted model techniques can be applied to given reliable results. The conclusion is reached that many problems of the Civil Engineering Research Division of the Air Force Weapons Laboratory can be solved economically through the use of dimensional analysis and scale modeling.
