The program involves the study of improved electrode structures to lead to high efficiency ion lasers and high power high efficiency CO2 lasers. Various designs were explored but actual improved lasers were not completed in this short study program. An improved ion laser system is suggested whigh uses the more favorable hollow cathode electron beam discharge to produce CW and pulsed laser oscillations in both visible and UV ranges. A novel dual-plasma approach for high pressure, high power laser operation is also devised for the development of efficient, compact and powerful CO2 lasers. Author Modified Abstract
