An investigation is described to ascertain whether or not atomic absorption spectrophotometry could be used to determine the concentration of trace elements such as silver Ag, bismuth Bi, cadmium Cd, and lead Pb in nickel base alloys such as IN100, B1900 and 713C, without interference from the constituent elements. Failed and nonfailed gas turbine parts made of the above alloys were tested to ascertain whether trace amounts of these elements could have possibly caused the early failure of these gas turbine parts.
