Abstract:

Using the self-consistent cluster-variation method, the static longitudinal and transverse susceptibilities were calculated for FeF2 as a function of temperature. In the spontaneous magnetization range spontaneous local fields were utilized as inputs for this calculation. These local field values yield spontaneous sublattice magnetization values in agreement with experimental data over a temperature range that considerably exceeds the spin-wave and D 9.4K. The longitudinal susceptibility was found to converge rapidly so that higher order perturbation calculations result in negligible improvement at all temperatures. The transverse susceptibility, on the other hand, is shown to improve more markedly as the perturbation calculation is extended to higher order. Author
