Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to test instrumentality theory predictions of work effort. The theory suggests that effort exerted on an activity is a function of the probability instrumentality of effort leading to certain outcomes weighted by the evaluation of these outcomes. In this research the amount of effort exerted on various tasks by a group of faculty members at a large university was examined. Predictions based on instrumentality theory were tested along with predictions based on modification of the theory. Author Modified Abstract
