The performance of the tainter-gate type spillway and stilling basin for Warrior Dam was studied on two section models constructed to undistorted scales of 160 and 120. The stilling basin is to be a horizontal apron with two rows of baffle piers and a low end sill. The exit channel is to be protected with a riprap blanket. The spillway and stilling basin were found to function satisfactorily as originally designed however, revisions were tested in attempts to improve basin performance further and reduce construction costs. Spillway tests included verification of head-discharge relations for both a curved and a more economical straight-line downstream face, and of the addition of a curved section to the upstream abutment walls to improve flow conditions.
