Abstract:

Hourly temperature data were obtained from 340 first order weather stations located in the continental United States, Alaska, and the Panama Canal Zone. The data was processed by computer, ranked into monthly maximum and minimum percentiles values, and presented in tabular form for application to maps, charts, or calculations. An additional study involving the daily minimum temperature was conducted to define the limiting temperature values associated with a 3 and 6 consecutive hour cold soak period. The purpose of this data is to allow its use in specifying lubricant properties needed in different areas. To facilitate the use of these percentile data in fuel and lubricant specifications, isothermal maps were prepared defining geographic regions in terms of selected minimum and maximum percentile values.
