Abstract:
During the period 20-23 October 1961, 11,000 sq yd of epoxy-asphalt concrete pavement, approximately 1 in. thick, was placed at Patrick Air Force Base, Cocoa, Fla. The epoxy-asphalt concrete was placed over a new asphalt-concrete binder course on each end of the primary runway. This runway is all-flexible construction and has recently been overlaid with new asphaltic concrete binder and surface courses. The epoxy-asphalt concrete was placed at the ends of the runway to provide protection against damage from fuel spillage and blast of jet aircraft operating on the runway. Author
