Abstract:

A high-pressure test apparatus and method developed from one originated by the Illinois Division of Highways was studied at the WATERWAYs Experiment Station using concrete cylinders 6 in. in diameter and 12 in. in eight. In this method a specimen is submerged in water in a strong sealed container and subjected to 4000-psi hydraulic pressure. The ensuing apparent volume change is used to determine the amount of air present in the specimen. Author
