An inventory of current mathematical models of the static and dynamic response of scientific and oceanographic data-gathering moors is presented. Ship moors, military moors, unprogrammed models, non-mooring cable dynamics, obsolete models, purely static models, and cable strumming are excluded from the inventory. A matrix summary of all model characteristics is given, as well as a tabular condensation of the characteristics of each model. It is found that time-domain models are limited by the speed of third-generation digital computers, that frequency-domain models execute faster and model the response to a random seaway in spectral form more readily than time-domain models, and that experimental data are needed, both for establishing parameter coefficients and for verifying overall model accuracy.
