Coupling B10H102- with 2,4,6-tribromobenzene diazonium ion produced a protonated azo compound with the azo function in an apical polyhedral position. When this product heated at reflux in acetonitrile for three hours, 1-B10H9N2- and 1,3,5-tribromobenzene are formed in good yield. This method provides the only known route to mono diazonium substituted B10H102-0 and in addition it may be extended to other B10H102- derivatives. Author
