The overall objective of the project has been to acquire a better understanding of the processes of fracture in rocks, needed in engineering rock mechanics, structural geology, and seismology. The project has involved an integrated program of theoretical, experimental, and field studies designed to improve the knowledge of why, when, where, and how fracturing occurs. It Photomechanical modeling, and Fast strain-rate testing.
