Abstract:

The reduction of the closo-carboranes 1,7-C2B6H8, 4,5-C2B7H9, 1,6-C2B8H10, 1,10-C2B8H10, and 2,3-C2B9H11 with Na followed by complexation with CoCl2 and NaC5H5 produces metalloboranes of the following types C5H5CoC2BnHn2, C5H5Co2C2BNHn2, and C5H5CoC2BnHn1 C2BNHND. Similarly, addition of FeCl2 and NaC5H5 to the anions derived from the reduction of 1,7-C2B6H8 and 1,6-C2B8H10 results in new ferracarboranes. The preparation, characterization, and proposed structures of these metalloboranes are discussed. Author
