Abstract:

The peripheral jet of the air cushion vehicles in the overfed and the underfed condition was analyzed by extending the method which the author had previously proposed for the balanced jet. The theoretical formulas were obtained considering the effect of the viscosity of the fluid and some unknown constants involved therein were determined by the experimental investigation. The semi-empirical formulas thus obtained gave fairly good results. The experimental results did not show the discontinuity of the mass flow terms at the equilibrium point which the inviscid theories had predicted and it was concluded that the viscous effect was important for the analysis of the unbalanced jet, especially for the small disturbance treatment.
