Abstract:

A study of those factors which can affect the quality of an electrostatic reproduction was undertaken. Observations were made under conditions which simulated the corona unit in Army electrostatic printers. The major areas of the study were Corona configuration and charging homogeneity and Environmental effect on the corona. The studies and conclusions have application to printing processes which employ corona discharge devices. The major recommendations involved the development of a process in which a positive wire charging configuration can be used and, development of a process which reduces the production of ozone in the unit.
