Abstract:

A superior, high performance chemical light system capable of generating 900 lumen hoursliter of yellow-green light was developed. This formulation is based on the reaction of H2O2 with the oxalate ester bis2,4,5- trichloro-6-carbopentoxyphenyloxalate CPPO and the fluorescer 1-chloro-9,10- bisphenylethynyl anthracene 1-ClBPEA. An efficient green-emitting system 700 lumen hoursliter was developed by the use of 2-ClBPEA as the fluorescer. Variation of the catalyst andor catalyst concentration permits a variety of intensity decay curves to be obtained ranging from bright 2 minutes intensity of 150 foot lambertscm, shortlived reactions to long-lived systems providing a brightness of over two foot lambertscm for 15 hours. The high efficiency of the new system may be related to large spectral shifts which take place in the 1- ClBPEA reactions. Storage stability results were conducted.
