Cementing of dune sands by carbonates has not been considered to proceed rapidly in high-latitude regions. This study indicates that dunes along the Scotland coast, however, are actively being cemented by carbonates and that this process is quite widespread. This cementation is associated primarily with percolating waters in the vadose environment. Cementing of the dune sands stabilizes the dune fields and increases considerably trafficability across such landforms. Author
