Abstract:
The report summarizes the most recent development efforts for the Advanced Meteorological Sounding System AMSS. The system design provides for automatic ranging and accurate telemetry of four meteorological data channels to 200 Km altitudes by means of rocket-borne transponder type sondes and to 46 Km by balloon-borne sondes, with a maximum slant range of 300 Km 187 miles. Meteorological data is obtained from sensors attached to the radiosonde and positional information is determined from slant range measurement and the ground tracking antenna. Unambiguous slant range to 600 Km is obtained from ground transmission and reception times of a pseudo random noise PRN code. Author
