Abstract:

The study evaluates the costs and potential benefits of providing Armed Forces members and their dependents with embossed ID cards. Included are a description of the present ID card and its production procedures a survey of various features that can be incorporated in a card to obtain data recording, automated data entry, or data storage capabilities and a discussion of possible uses of an embossed ID card in hospitals, the Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Uniformed Services CHAMPUS, military food service programs, and other service activities. Two alternative methods for providing embossed ID cards are presented.
