Abstract:
Preventive maintenance scheduled inspection requirements were analyzed to select one inspection concept which could be applied effectively to all typical types of Army helicopters. A computer model was developed for comparison of alternate practicable inspection schemes. The model evaluates the impact of different inspection cycle times and variations in scheduling of specific components for inspection within that cycle. Many candidate inspection concepts were structured, scheduled, and analyzed with the model. The preferred concept was selected on the basis of a figure of merit which reflected the comparative reliability, safety, and availability achieved with each concept. Engineering analysis was used to evaluate the cost of each concept and those characteristics of the system which could not be quantified.
