Abstract:
X-ray diffraction methods were used to obtain stress levels generated in gun steels by broaching, fine-grinding and turning. Furthermore, a split ring was used to simulate the autofrettaged condition in a tube and comparisons are made between X-ray and strain gage results. The results are used in several cases to explain fatigue and failure behavior of components. Author
