Abstract:

Autumn Leaves is a project code name assigned by the Naval Material Command for the evaluation of two simultaneous sealifts of naval ordnance from the East and West Coasts. Autumn Leaves East consisted of 160 twenty foot MILVANs and 3500 MT of break bulk ordnance shipped overseas in the first Military Sealift Command MSC converted self-sustaining partial containership. Autumn Leaves West consisted of 7 LASH Lighters and 36 MILVANs shipped via commercial LASH Lighter Aboard SHip vessel. The report contains the results of this project designed to evaluate and compare simultaneous shipments by cargo containers, LASH lighters and break bulk.
