Abstract:
Increased knowledge concerning the detrimental effects of smoking has created a desire to identify any adverse effects that smoking might have on aircrew performance. A limited review of the literature was undertaken to provide some perspective on the likely effects of smoking on variables related to aircrew performance. The authors concluded that cigarettes do significantly affect various sensory thresholds, but that the significance of these effects appear to be of little practical importance. They also noted that withdrawal does produce significant performance decrements. Author
