Abstract:
Ultrasonic absorption measurements were made on polyethylene and polyethylene oxide at 5.5 MHz from room temperature to above the melting point. Both polymers have a relaxation peak near the melting point. Comparison of this data with literature values suggests that both peaks are due to the alpha relaxation, and that the activation energy for the alpha relaxation in polyethylene oxide is 40 kcalmole.
