A new formulation of the output sensitivity problem is developed which is applicable to a large class of nonlinear systems that could not be handled previously by standard sensitivity methods. The formulation is based on the use of feedback as a second degree of freedom and is structured such that classical sensitivity of techniques form a subset of the general development. The principal result obtained is a subsidiary minimization problem, from which the feedback operator can be explicitly determined. Author
