Sintered-metal Cd-Ni electrodes for alkaline batteries are difficult to make because of the low efficiency of the liquid process used on the sintered-metal alloy. Impregnation of the sintered metal may be increased in two ways By increasing the active-metal concentration in the impregnating solution, which increases the weight of nickel hydroxide due to physical filling of the pores, and By increasing the dissolution rate of the sintered metal, which increases the NiOH2 weight due to hydroxide formation in the pores. The proposed method of high-temperature impregnation of sintered metal under excess vapor pressure eliminates the disadvantages of soaking in highly concentrated solution and accelerates the impregnation process simultaneously in the two ways mentioned above.
