The research indicated by this review is first to identify the characteristics of effective instructional cues and processes, and second, to develop procedures for generating instructional cues. Then the educational technologist can benefit from the use of the instructional cue in carrying out his task of applying principles of behavioral sciences to instructional problems. This review indicates that the following kinds of research should be initiated Characteristics of non-verbal instructional cues should be defined and tested Modes of learner utilization of instructional cue e.g., learners overt construction and verbalization of instructional cue vs. presentation of the cue to the learner Learner entry behaviors related to the components of the instructional cue Frequency of instructional cues as a function of learner en route achievement.
