Abstract:
The report is concerned with the computational aspects of the finite difference treatment of the Navier-Stokes equations for generating and maintaining a straight oblique shock wave of prescribed strength in a steady, uniform, supersonic flow and computing accurately the inviscid flow field downstream of the shock wave. The computational error associated with the special case of shock reflection from a plane inviscid wall establishes an upper bound of the error to be anticipated in the inviscid field in future studies of the interaction of an oblique shock wave with viscous layers.
