The development of a jet noise facility to study the interaction of the flow with bluff bodies inside the duct resulting in more intense noise than is expected from the jet itself is described. The long range objective is to use the information on noise due to bluff bodies and non-steady combustion inside the duct to relate their relative importance as a source of noise in an aircraft jet engine. The construction of the flow system and anechoic chamber is described. An analytical model is developed which incorporates sources of noise both inside and outside the engine. Author
