Abstract:

Multistream interactions are studied when the propagation medium dielectric or plasma is stratified or space-time periodic i.e., the medium parameters behave like alphaz,t alpha sub 0 1eta fKz-omega t where fxi is a periodic function. The space-time periodicity can be considered as due to a strong pump wave. The types of interactions were determined using different methods Taylor series development, power flow method with conservation of energy and momentum, and a numerical method based on the wave equation solution. The Brillouin diagram in the limit eta approaches 0 is used to investigate different aspects of the problem without extensive computations. It is found that all types of interactions, stable and unstable, can occur even if they did not exist in the homogeneous case. Author
