Abstract:

Eleven Air Force installations were requested to provide samples of all the cleaning and treating materials used on their aircraft wash racks. Chemical analyses of these items were performed in order to determine what potential water pullutants are discharged as a result of washing aircraft. Current directives were reviewed to determine Air Force policy concerning treatment and disposal of these waste waters. Based on the potential pollutants capable of being discharged, it was recommended that aircraft wash rack wastes be discharged to the sanitary sewer system after suitable pre-treatment if separate adequate industrial waste treatment is not available.
