Abstract:
A survey of the investigations of a mechanism for the formation of an inverse population of oscillatory levels in the gas-discharge CO-lasers is presented. A major discussion concerns a presentation of the presently available theoretical and experimental data on the probabilities of oscillatory transitions in molecules. Works are discussed in detail in which calculations of the population of oscillatory levels in a CO-laser are given. Analysis of the indicated works leads to the conclusion about the correctness of the hypothesis in accordance with which the pumping of energy into the oscillatory degrees of freedom of molecules of CO occures by electron impact and the population of the high-lying levels.
