Abstract:
The invention pertains to an ultrasonic device for the excitation and reception of sheer waves, incorporating a transducer for example, a Y-section piezo electric crystal and a damping rod acoustically coupled to it. The distinguish-feature of the device is the fact that, for the purpose of extending the working frequency band and determining the rigidity characteristics of materials with a high attenuation coefficient, the lateral surface of its rod is threaded, while the free extremity, with a platformed end face, is tapered on two sides at an angle of not less than 45 degrees to the diametrical plane parallel to the sheer oscillation polarization. Moreover, this same damping rod is designed so as to have a dimensional ratio of 1.6--2.2 longitudinal oscillation wavelengths to its diameter.
