Abstract:
Semiclassical and quantum treatments of molecular photodissociation are presented in which it is shown that the angular distribution of the fragments will often be peaked parallel or perpendicular to the direction of the incident light beam. The form of the anisotropy is found to depend on the polarization of the light beam, the orientation of the electronic transition dipole moment within the molecule, made of some recent experiments which exploit the angular distribution of photofragments to learn about the nature of the photoejection process.
