Abstract:
Attention has been focused upon the development of two major types of blood preservatives. First of all, blood has been collected in ordinary ACD preservative solution, and artificial media added to the red cells after removal of the plasma. Secondly, blood has been collected in CPD media and various additives, particularly dihydroxyacetone and sodium ascorbate have been studied for their capacity to maintain 2,3-DPG levels, on the one hand and ATP and viability on the other. The results of these investigations are presented. Author
