Abstract:
The report covers work on a LF prototype radio navigation system to provide a backup short-baseline navigation capability for Army aeronautical missions operating from ADF beacon stations. Pursuit of methods to reduce the cost of user equipment has led to the development of a digital receiver with the ability to tune within the LF band. This effort was supported by tradeoff comparison studies between analog and digital receiver methods, a direct-digital frequency synthesizer design for tuning purposes, digitally-tuned superheterodyne receiver techniques, CORDIC digital processor development for navigation coordinate conversion, and relative and absolute phase error analysis.
