Abstract:

MA DISPLAY PANEL. The panels are then sealed, evacuated, and backfilled with a gas-mixture that emits vacuum-UV energy when ionized. By application of the proper electronic drive signals, the gas is selectively ionized at discrete electrode intersections, exciting the particular phosphor at that cell-site. Phosphors are arranged on the dielectric surface such that there is at least one red-, one blue-, and one-green emitting phosphor within each group of four adjacent cells. About 15 color-panels with 60 total lines-per-inch resolution 3600 sites per square inch were fabricated during this report period. Several methods of reducing unwanted optical crosstalk between adjacent cells were evaluated. Facilities for the fabrication of large-area color-panels, including a complete new phosphor lab, were installed, checked out, and placed in use. Fabrication of 3-color panels with 512x512 total lines at 60 per inch has begun. Author
