Abstract:
Elastomer and elastomer-steel composites were selected and tested as possible materials for application in the braking system of the Air Cushion Landing Gear. Experemental equipment included a rotating concrete wheel to simulate the runway, various elastomer skids and the necessary instrumentation. The three elastomer materials used were Butyl, Viton-B and Ethylene-Propylene Terpolymer EPT. Tests were conducted at velocities up to 60 mph with contact pressures of 3, 5, and 7 psi.
