Abstract:
An approach to two-phase media is proposed and investigated. The approach is based on the application of an averaging process to the balance laws of continuum mechanics appropriately generalized to account for the interface between the phases. Principles which may be useful in a general theory of constitutive equations for two-phase media are mentioned and constitutive equations for fluid-like media are proposed. The equations of motion are applied to three situations fluidized beds, foams, and turbulent sediment transport. Author
