Abstract:
Determination of the effect of Mg additions of 3.5 to 15 on the viscosity of slags with basicities of 0.9-1.2 were conducted within 1200-1500C. The heats were made in a crucible lowered into a graphite pocket inside a resistance furnace with carbon heaters. Under conditions prevailing at the Karaganda Plant for smelting conversion pig iron it is advisable to use slags with basicities of 1.05-1.15 at MgO contents of 7.0-10. It is suggested that this conclusion be verified under actual production conditions.
