It has frequently been suggest that an intermediate calcium silicosulphate exists, but its composition has not yet been established. X-ray phase analysis of clinkered raw mixes produced from fine-ground calcite, quartz and gypsum and burned at 1000-1240C, revealed diffraction maxima which cannot be related either to the starting materials or to dicalcium silicate. Heating of clinkers containing the new phase, revealed maxima of anhydrite and beta -2CaOSiO2 above 1250C on the radiographs. The new phase was synthesised at 1200C from a mixture of dicalcium silicate and anhydrite with addition of mineralizing agent 1 NaF.
