Abstract:

The effectiveness of a 6.2-cu-yd capacity Koehring-Johnson mixer in mixing 6-cu-yd batches of exterior concrete at three mixing times was evaluated. The following tests were made on samples from the front, middle, and back portions of the continuous mixer discharge coarse aggregate content, unit weight of air-free mortar, and moisture and cement content of the mortar fraction. Three batches were tested after 4-min mixing time, three after 3 min, and one after 2-12 min. The mixer was found to perform satisfactorily at a minimum mixing time of 3 min when mixing 6 cu yd of exterior concrete. Author
