Abstract:

A feasibility study was undertaken as part of a program to develop quantitative techniques for prescribing the design and use of training systems. As the second step in this program, the present study attempted to refine quantitative indices employed during earlier research conduct laboratory research on the effects which task index variations have on training criteria and support the laboratory results with data gathered in the field. Two laboratory investigations and a field study were conducted. Significant relationships were established between instructors judgments of training criteria and trainee subtask index values.
