The report summarizes seismological research for the period 1 January 1972 to 30 June 1972. Extensive analysis is continued on the systematic regional variations in stress. Tibetan earthquakes and nuclear explosions in the Aleutian Islands are studied to provide a better means of detection and identification. The effect of lateral inhomogeneities implied by plate tectonics on the generation and propagation of seismic waves is being explored.
