Abstract:
The problem of finding a mimimax approximation to an ideal frequency response of a nonrecursive digital filter is studied. The general Remes exchange algorithm for computing the approximation has been implemented using a computer graphics display. Dependence of sidelobe level on the transition band width is considered. In order to obtain a tighter fit in certain regions the techniques of approximation with restricted range are used to compute an approximation which is constrained to lie between two restraining curves. Error trade-off between unconstrained and constrained approximations is considered. A careful mathematical study of discretization error is made. A comparison is made between the authors approach using restraining curves and the approaches of other investigators in this area. Author
