Abstract:
Graphite wears in two different ways in friction with metal, depending on the specific applied pressure. Below a certain critical level, the wear is slow above this critical level, friction and wear increase markedly. Study of the process of wear under high loads shows that the wear rate and friction vary in the same manner with various variable parameters for all metal graphite pairs. There is a critical value of specific pressure for each graphite metal pair, at which the transition from slight to intensive wear occurs. Author
