The Halpha, Hbeta, and Hgamma lines of the Balmer series of atomic hydrogen and the G singlet Sigma g to B singlet Sigma u molecular hydrogen system were produced by 40-kev electron beam excitation of molecular hydrogen at room temperature. The collisional de-excitation cross section of the above-mentioned excited electronic states in collision with H2 X singlet Sigma g was measured.
