Abstract:

In the report, effective band pressures are calculated from data obtained through shell-pushing experiments in conjunction with the finite element method of stress analysis for the two-independent variable cases. The finite element technique takes into account the irregular geometry of the gun tube. However, the effect of gun tube rifling and the missile groove are neglected. In addition, the band pressure and shear stress are assumed to be uniform.
